Letting Go Of Stress: Spend Time Just Being

In the modern day, there is constant pressure to do more, see more, and be more. But sometimes, you need to realize that it is time to let go of stress. And instead of packing every minute of your life full of activity, it’s okay to spend a little time just being.

Take A Deep Breath

People often forget the simple power of taking a deep breath. And even if your schedule is packed full, and you don’t have time to take a relaxation break just to be you, there is almost always time in your day for a deep breathing break. According to studies mentioned in The Daily Meditation, deep breathing is not only an essential part of living, but also of maintaining mental health.

So, if you can, try to spend a few minutes a day deep breathing. And when you feel scared or stressed, take a moment to breathe deeply here too, it’ll help to clear your mind and face the problem head on.

Spend Time In Nature

This one is an easy one. Next time you have some free time, head out and enjoy it in nature. And this doesn’t mean you have to do anything strenuous. Spending time in nature could mean simply sitting on a bench in your backyard.

Don’t make any plans, simply resolve to exist in nature for a little while. This will help you to relieve stress and let go of thoughts which may be bothering you. You’ll be surprised how much better you’ll feel once you’re in nature.

Try To Laugh

According to Psychology Today, laughter is one of the best medicines there is. It can help reduce pain, and discomfort. It can also improve performance in your professional life as it increases creativity. And of course, it reduces stress. No matter where you are in your life, you should always find time to laugh.

Sometimes, the funniest moments are the unplanned ones, so don’t be afraid if you have some free time just to spend it sitting around and talking with friends. You never know what hilarity might occur!

Re-Evaluate Your Schedule

Now that you know all the things to do when you have a few minutes to let go of stress, it’s time to clear out your schedule so you have time to do those things. First of all, if you are constantly going from one activity to another with no breaks, something has got to go. Prioritize the items on your list, then get rid of the activity you care about least. Although this may be tough, if you can’t find a way to lower your stress levels you will quickly reach burn out, then it won’t matter whether you’ve had time for yourself or not.

Just Say ‘No’

Now that you have a little time to yourself, it may be tempting when a friend asks to hang out during that time. As hard as it is, you need to learn to say no. You need time for you in your life, and although friends are important, they are not as important as your own health. So if a friend tries to encroach on your spending time in nature, just tell them no and that you will find time to spend with them another day.

All in all, the best way to let go of stress is by evaluating your schedule, and learning to say no to things which may over-extend you. Then you need to make an effort to spend time breathing deeply, relaxing in nature, and laughing, in order to life a fulfilling, low stress life.
